School Library Journal Review
PreS-K-Deak gives a glancing introduction to colors in this tale of a romantic skunk's successful search for the perfect white hat. Harriet's adoring husband, Harry, cloyingly encourages her venture and self-esteem at every turn. However, the author offers details, such as Harriet's radio job, that distract rather than enhance the story. Nathan's vibrant paint collages bring style to the singsong text that occasionally may puzzle: "they lived-in a house that trapped the sunlight." Perhaps polecat aficionados will best appreciate this one.-Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
When Harriet the skunk searches for a new white hat, she finally finds one in an antique shop. She takes it home, and as she models it for her husband Harry, a little mouse jumps out of the trimmings. The collagelike illustrations pop with color, but the story has several irrelevant passages that detract from its forward flow. (c) Copyright 2010.
