Summary
From #1 blockbuster bestselling author Janet Evanovich comes a Stephanie Plum novel that takes adventure, action, suspense (and maybe even true love?) to new heights.
WATCH YOUR BACK . . .
LOOK BOTH WAYS . . .
BECAUSE LOVE IS IN THE AIR . . .
AND THAT MEANS BIG TROUBLE!
Mysterious men have a way of showing up in Stephanie Plum's apartment. When the shadowy Diesel appears, he has a task for Stephanie--and he's not taking no for an answer. Annie Hart is a "relationship expert" who is wanted for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Stephanie needs to find her, fast. Diesel knows where she is. So they make a deal: He'll help her get Annie if Stephanie plays matchmaker to several of Annie's most difficult clients. But someone wants to find Annie evenmore than Diesel and Stephanie. Someone with a nasty temper. And someone with "unmentionable" skills. Does Diesel know more than he's saying about Annie Hart? Does Diesel have secrets he's keeping from Stephanie and the two men in her life--Ranger and Morelli? With Stephanie Plum in over her head, things are sure to get a little dicey and a little explosive, Jersey style!

Publisher's Weekly Review
Evanovich turns out novels faster than her bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum, downs doughnuts, and that's pretty quick. Though Plum is at the center of this novella, the elusive quarry is love, not for herself but for the lonely hearts she must fix up by Valentine's Day. Her sidekick for this adventure is Diesel, who appeared briefly in previous Between-the-Numbers novellas. Lorelei King, who has brought out the best in this series, plays Diesel with aplomb. He sounds more like the tranny Sally on testosterone than like Morelli and Ranger, the curiously absent macho men in Stephanie's life. Other reappearing characters, like Lula and Plum's family, make cameo appearances, leaving room for some newbies, including a lovelorn vet, who sounds a bit too dumb to have ever gotten though school. King does better with an overcaffeinated butcher, who comes to life only on the topic of sirloin. King has fun with his stuttering attempts to make conversation in front of Jet, whom he adores from across the street. Evanovich fans will find this audio funny and festive, down to the plum-colored CDs. Simultaneous release with the St. Martin's hardcover (Reviews, Dec. 18). (Jan.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Kirkus Review
Just what Trenton's favorite bounty-hunter needed: a stint playing Cupid's helper as the hours tick down to Valentine's Day. The bail-bond business is quiet in Trenton after the holidays. The streets are too cold for hookers and pushers, and the serious crackheads celebrated Christmas by overdosing. In fact, the only real draw on Stephanie Plum's list of Failures to Appear is relationship expert Annie Hart, who jumped bail after getting charged with armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Now Diesel, the skip-tracer who provides an even more unsuitable alternative to Stephanie's unsuitable regular men (Twelve Sharp, 2006, etc.), has turned up with a proposition. He's taken Annie into protective custody because she's been threatened by her unsatisfied client Bernie Beaner, whose marriage is on the rocks. Diesel offers to turn Annie over to Stephanie after she fills in for her professionally in the weekend before Valentine's Day. The job involves straightening out the amatory problems of divorced mom Charlene Klinger, who doesn't want a man; lovably dorky veterinarian Dr. Gary Martin; Larry Burlew, the painfully shy butcher who keeps staring out his window at Jet, the coffee-shop waitress opposite; 35-year-old virgin Jeanine Chan; and Albert Kloughn, who'd like to marry Stephanie's sister Valerie but just can't bring himself to pop the question and submit to the ceremony. As usual, Stephanie's job will eventually lead her to some serious mobsters--this time fearsome ex-button man Lou Delvina--and, as usual, the plot will be seriously upstaged by the fusillade of one-liners (asked to describe the man she'd like to have deflower her, Jeanine wistfully replies, "I'd like him to have at least some teeth"). Just the thing for panting fans who can't wait for Stephanie's 13th numbered case. And if this bonbon is even less substantial than her customary fare, well, Valentine's Day isn't really such a major holiday, is it? Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
Booklist Review
A perfect Valentine's Day bonbon, a dreamy comma in the numbered series that features Stephanie Plum of Trenton, bounty hunter and gal from the Burg. A few years ago at Christmas, Diesel appeared in Stephanie's apartment. He's back, still blond, disheveled, and now hiding matchmaker Annie Hart. Stephanie is looking for Annie because she's wanted on assault. Diesel wants Stephanie to do the matchmaking in Annie's place and then he will hand her over so Stephanie can collect the bond. Is Diesel an angel? He does have a few interesting abilities, and he doesn't seem bothered by walls and doors. There is a hint of sweet magic as this odd couple bring together a butcher and a barista, a woman with too many kids and pets and a lonely veterinarian, and even Lula, Stephanie's plus-sized colleague, and Tank (longtime readers will know the silent Tank as Ranger's second in command). Evanovich keeps the language light and sweet and the action nonstop, filling a few plot holes in the main series and finally getting Stephanie's sister, Valerie, married to the ill-named Albert Kloughn on Valentine's Day. Adorable. --GraceAnne DeCandido Copyright 2006 Booklist
Library Journal Review
Plum Lovin' is the Valentine's Day entry in the novella series "Between-the-Numbers," all featuring beloved bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. This time, she works with the elusive and possibly magical Diesel, who needs to find relationship expert Annie Hart before her estranged husband does. The husband is, like Diesel and Annie, an "unmentionable"; his power is to give people horrendous cases of excruciatingly itchy hives. Annie is sort of the love version of the fairy godmother and is voiced in a kind of berserk homage to Billie Burke in The Wizard of Oz. Can Stephanie take Annie's place as matchmaker? She and Diesel work on that while looking for the bad guy. The real issue: Will commitment-phobe Stephanie end up with a third candidate for true love? With each new Stephanie Plum book, narrator Lorelei King continues to improve upon perfection in her reading. Her sense of pacing, a key element in books with so much humor, is right on the mark; every voice is distinctive and unique. Recommended for all public libraries.
