The best friends/beauty shop owners/private-eye partners have been offered an all-expense-paid trip to the National Association of Private Investigators convention in the Big Apple. Debbie Sue sees the invitation as validation, but Edwina has one goal: to get her feet into a pair of super-glam designer shoes, not easily had back home. Yee-haw!

As a sign of things to come, the two Texas tornadoes don't even get out of the state without causing pandemonium at the Dallas airport. And once they land in the Big City they meet Celina, a small-town librarian who's broke and bereft from getting robbed, and Cher, an amiable "working girl" with a heart of gold. Taking them under their wings, they head right for trouble as Edwina nearly starts a riot in the hotel bar.

But the Big Apple hasn't seen nothin' yet! While helping shy Celina hook up with a hunky young police detective, the Domestic Equalizers bumble their way into a murder investigation that could end up leaving Debbie Sue deceased and Edwina stone-cold in her new Jimmy Choos!

The Domestic Equalizers take on Manhattan in Cash's latest big hair blitz. Edwina Perkins-Martin and Debbie Sue Overstreet run a beauty salon and the only PI agency in Salt Lick, Tex. The invitation to speak at the annual conference of the NAPI (National Association of Private Investigators) comes as a surprise, but Edwina and Debbie Sue accept since the NAPI's going to pop for the expenses and pony up an honorarium. Meanwhile in Dime Box, Tex., Celina Phillips dreams of becoming a PI and also decides to attend. The three meet and the rest is cornpone kismet when a crime occurs right next to their hotel room, and Celina falls for a sexy NYPD detective. Cash (pseudonym for a sister writing team) crams her latest caper with such wackiness that the contrived plot can almost be excused, but Edwina and Debbie Sue are often so silly that they're downright annoying. Making it in the Big Apple is the last thing Cash's dynamic duo, Debbie Sue Overstreet and Edwina Perkins-Martin aka the Domestic Equalizers of Salt Lick, Texas, have in mind, but when they receive a surprise invitation to speak at the National Association of Private Investigators at a swank Manhattan hotel, the gals are off as fast as their pink ostrich-leather boots can carry them. Having befriended Celina, a down-on-her-luck fellow Texan, along the way, Debbie Sue and Edwina quickly become embroiled in a murder investigation in which the prime suspect is one of New York City's most respected cops. As if that's not dicey enough, his partner has just fallen head-over-heels in love with Celina. The usual mayhem and merriment ensue as the Domestic Equalizers wreak havoc trying to bring the cop to justice and score some fine Jimmy Choos while they're at it.
