Summary
Shirlene Dalton has it all: a dream marriage to a man who spoils her rotten and the most outrageous mansion Bramble, Texas, has ever seen. But when her husband unexpectedly dies, Shirlene finds herself right back where she started-in a rundown trailer on the wrong side of the tracks. Never the type to let a little bad luck and a whole heap of heartache get her down, Shirlene is ready to prove to the local gossips she can make it on her own . . . until she ends up living next door to the most tempting cowboy in town.
Billy Wilkes has a score to settle and a plan to wipe Bramble right off the map. But when his sexy, redheaded neighbor figures out what he's up to, his good ol' boy charm won't be enough to save him. With the town on his tail, Billy will have to come clean quick-or kiss Shirlene goodbye.
Author Notes
Katie Lane's interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a '65 Mustang - okay, so maybe it wasn't romance as much as raging teenage hormones. Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail. Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the owner of that Mustang and would love to hear from her readers.

Publisher's Weekly Review
Once readers get past the good ol' boy banter, they'll appreciate the rewarding, if not terribly deep, love story between high-spirited Shirlene Dalton and her redneck neighbor, Billy "Bubba" Wilkes, in Lane's third Deep in the Heart of Texas contemporary western. Nouveau riche Shirlene has to return to her trailer park roots when the bank forecloses on the ostentatious mansion she shared with her late oil baron husband. As she tries to get her home back, she also has to deal with the four foster children squatting in her ramshackle trailer. Bubba finds Shirlene amusing, but vows to avoid offering her a "tour of Wilkesville" because of his own questionable plans for the town of Bramble. He doesn't expect her tough exterior to reveal a tenderhearted, mothering woman just trying to make her way. This slow-paced story is perfect for a lazy summer afternoon. Booklist Review
Love hits the strangest people in Bramble, Texas. Trophy wife Shirlene Dalton, a Dolly Partonesque fixture in the previous titles in Lane's Deep in the Heart of Texas series, has just been evicted from her mansion after the death of her husband. Not knowing where to go or what to do, she ends up back in the trailer park where she began. But instead of being vacant, as she expected, her old home is occupied by a motley group of orphans. Next door, good ol' boy Bubba, Billy Wilkes, has returned to town, and danged if Shirlene isn't attracted by his lazy smile, teasing ways, and ah-shucks attitude. As Shirlene fights the eviction notice and grudgingly adopts the kids in her down-home, practical way, she and Billy run into each other more and more. But neither Shirlene nor Billy are who the town thinks they are. Lane gives readers a rip-roaring good time while making what could feel like a farce insightful and real, just like the characters themselves.--Henshaw, Pat Copyright 2010 Booklist
Library Journal Review
Forced out of her mansion when the death of her oilman husband leaves her practically destitute, Shirlene Dalton reluctantly returns to the dilapidated trailer where she was raised only to find that not only has it been taken over by a quartet of orphans, but she has also acquired a sexy, annoying, macho redneck neighbor, Billy "Bubba" Wilkes. West Texas born and bred, Shirlene is nothing if not resilient, and she's determined to get back on her feet, even as things go from bad to worse. But Bubba is not the crude hayseed Shirlene thinks he is. In truth, he is on a bizarre mission of vengeance, one that could easily destroy the town in the process-unless something changes his mind. VERDICT Slightly outrageous and spicy, but with an emotional edge, this zingy Texas romp brings fans back to tiny Bramble, revisits the townsfolk with humor and flair, and adds another fun-filled chapter to Lane's popular series.
