Summary:

Set primarily at the beginning of Edo period Japan (early 17th century), with anthropomorphic animals replacing humans, this manga series features a rabbit ronin, Miyamoto Usagi, who is partially based on the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Usagi wanders the land on a musha shugyo (warrior's pilgrimage) occasionally selling his services as a bodyguard.

Summary

In this volume, Usagi teams with his friend Gen, a rhino bounty hunter, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to protect an aging sensei from an evil ninja clan. His travels also take him to a remote village under threat from deadly assassins, where only Usagi stands between their merciless blades and a community's destruction.

Author Notes

Stan Sakai was born in Kyoto, Japan, grew up in Hawaii, and now lives in California with his wife, Sharon, and children, Hannah and Matthew. He received a Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawaii and did further studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His creation, Usagi Yojimbo, is the story of a samurai rabbit living in a feudal Japan populated by anthropomorphic animals. It first appeared in Albedo Comics in 1984.
