Nikkolas Smith is a native of Houston, Texas, and is a master of architecture recipient from Hampton University and current theme park designer at Walt Disney Imagineering. He also creates freelance concept art, activist art paintings, and Hollywood movie posters. After hours, Nikkolas leads youth mentoring on Saturdays, with the kids of Compton and Watts, California, giving lessons in digital painting and life skills for success.

Let us not forget that there was a reason to celebrate during the summer of 2016: the incredible Olympic victories of four female athletes at the Rio Olympic Games. Simone Biles became the most decorated American gymnast of all time; Katie Ledecky broke multiple swimming records; Michelle Carter was the first African American to win gold in shot put; and Simone Manuel became the first African American to medal in an individual swimming event. Smith's tribute to these fine athletes makes up in enthusiasm what it lacks in narrative finesse. Readers will learn where the athletes were born and who inspired them to work hard and dream big. The ultimate message, you're never too young or old to reach your gold, is clichéd but well-intentioned. The book successfully elevates the oft-overlooked achievements of female athletes in a male-dominated realm.
