Courtney Alameda received a B.A. in English literature with an emphasis in creative writing from Brigham Young University. She is a veteran bookseller and librarian. Her first book, Shutter, was published in 2015.

To save humanity from a dying Earth, starships were loaded with precious natural resources, intended for new space colonies. Instead, the ships were hijacked by Pitch Dark ecoterrorists and jettisoned into deep space. Four hundred years later, one of these ships, the John Muir, is found by the Conquistador, a Pan-American team of colonists who scour the galaxy for Earth's lost resources. This valuable find sparks a battle between opposing political factions, complicated by alien horrors that hunt and kill with sound. Alameda centers her SF horror novel on two teens who are literally thrown together when the Conquistador, hacked by Pitch Dark sleepers, crashes into the John Muir. Both Tuck, a crewmate who awoke on the John Muir to find it overrun with monsters, and Laura, a burgeoning archaeologist struggling to escape her controlling ex-boyfriend on the Conquistador, are resilient, resourceful, and sympathetic. Alameda combines scary survival horror with a taut political plot and world building that folds in insightful details about race and gender in this Pan-American future.
