Summary
Book 2 of True Gentlemen, Grace Burrowes' gorgeous new Regency series.
Daniel Banks is a man of the cloth whose vocation is the last comfort he has left-and even his churchman's collar is beginning to feel like a noose. At the urging of family, Daniel attempts to start his life over as vicar in the sleepy Kentish town of Haddondale, family seat to the earls of Bellefonte.
Resigned to spinsterhood, Lady Kirsten Haddonfield welcomes the new vicar to stay at her family's home while his is under renovation. Suddenly the handsome visitor has Kirsten rethinking her ideas about love and marriage, but a dreadful secret from Daniel's past may cast a shadow too long for either of them to overcome.
Author Notes
Grace Burrowes spent a lot of time early in life reading romance novels. In college, while still voraciously reading romance, she supported herself by teaching piano and accompanying ballet classes. After graduation she became a technical writer and an editor. A demanding job that left enough time to read many, many romance novels - and grab a law degree through an evening program.
Despite becoming a single mom and practicing law in a small town, through all of Grace's ups and downs, she'd was a relentless reader of romance authors like Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, Judith Ivory, Mary Balogh, Loretta Chase, Eloisa James and many others.
Late one night, while preparing "some Motion or other" she recalled that in her briefcase was a book she'd been saving to read on a hard day. Grace promised to read just one chapter but another thought kept intruding as I read that one chapter, "I bet I could¿." So she wrote a romance novel. That book became Gareth: Lord of Rakes, and opened the door to the sheer bliss of writing historical romance. She wrote and wrote and wrote eventually becoming a published author.
Grace Burrowes writes the Duke's Obsession, Windham Sisters, MacGregors, Lonely Lords, Captive Hearts, Sweetest Kisses, True Gentlemen, Jaded Gentlemen, and Windham Brides Series as well as being a contributing author in many collections. Grace co-wrote Highland Holidays Series with Patience Griffin and wrote The Cowboy Wore a Kilt in the Kindle Worlds: Blame it on Texas Series.

Publisher's Weekly Review
Burrowes's second True Gentleman Regency (after Tremaine's True Love) sets up a very period-appropriate conflict between love and duty. Lady Kirsten Haddonfield, sister of the Earl of Bellefonte, is beautiful, accomplished, and forthright. Her village's new vicar, Daniel Banks, is everything Kirsten could want in a man: kind, humble, and too handsome for his own good. Unfortunately, he also has an estranged wife. While both Daniel and Kirsten acknowledge their attraction to each other, he admirably refuses to break his vows. Kirsten and Daniel continue to behave as friends as she assists him with turning the dower house into a school for the mischievous young men of the village. Yet when circumstances change, they wonder whether they can anticipate a life together. The protagonists are perfectly matched for each other in a novel complete with touching romance and an undercurrent of suspense. Agent: Steve Axelrod, Axelrod Literary Agency. Booklist Review
Lady Kirsten Haddonfield was a memorable character in previous titles in Burrowes' True Gentlemen series (Tremaine's True Love, 2015) and is now in the spotlight. Reverend Daniel Banks is happy for the chance to be vicar in a small Kentish town while he waits for his estranged wife, Olivia, to make her next move. He is quickly taken in by the villagers and the Haddonfields, especially Kirsten, whose honesty and cleverness reportedly put off two suitors. Daniel sees past her defenses and curbs his attraction while trying to solve his marital dilemma. A letter proclaiming his wife's death moves his new romance forward, but his family suspects Olivia is perpetuating fraud. Burrowes manages to find new twists on romantic conflicts while adding humor and creating wonderful minor characters. The boys in Daniel's fledgling school serve to pull together the main characters' dilemmas while offering humorous warmth. Burrowes continues her trademark portrayal of frank and loving families in her latest memorable romance.--Alessio, Amy Copyright 2015 Booklist
Library Journal Review
After her rejection of two suitors ruins her marriage prospects, outspoken Lady Kirsten Haddonfield retires to the family's country estate to live life on her own terms. Then the new vicar-handsome, dedicated Daniel Banks-arrives, and the attraction that flares between them surprises them both, plunging them into a situation that Kirsten had never envisioned and seems almost impossible to resolve. An unconventional but caring heroine who is honest to a fault and an honorable hero caught in a web not entirely of his own making find love despite the obstacles. VERDICT Beautifully wrought characters, both good and stunningly wicked, interact with a knotty plot that will keep readers enmeshed. The tidy resolution and elegant compromise nicely set the stage for the next in the series. Touching and intense. Burrowes (Matthew) lives in rural Maryland. © Copyright 2015.
