PreS - Gr 1 In her latest adventure, the charming star of Angelina Ballerina (1983) and Angelina and the Princess (1984, both Potter) now grudgingly escorts little cousin Henry to the fair she would rather attend with friends. Sweet, timid little Henry is dragged from thrill ride to thrill ride until he disappears in the Haunted House. A dismayed Angelina finds him with the balloon man, and remorse brings devotion for the rest of the day. There are some wonderful scenes of the fair: the Haunted House with its facade of a ferocious cat and interiors of bats, spiders and ghosts; a terrified little Henry about to be dragged onto a high-flying roller coaster and a whirling ferris wheel. Mouse Angelina eagerly awaits the May Day Fair--until her parents tell her she must take along her younger cousin, Henry. The story's denouement is weak (Angelina has a change of heart after Henry gets lost). But like most Angelina books, this will be savored not for its plot but for the dainty detailed illustrations in muted pastel hues. (c) Copyright 2010.
