Summary
Dear Reader,
I'm living a life I couldn't even have dreamed of a few years ago.I'm married to Bobby Polgar now (you know, the famous chesschampion who just happens to be the man I love!). And we'vegot this beautiful house with a view of Puget Sound.
Lately something's been worrying Bobby, though. When I asked,he said he was 'protecting his queen' and I got the oddestfeeling he wasn't talking about chess but about me . He wouldn'tsay anything else.
Do you remember Get Nailed, the beauty salon in Cedar Cove?I still work there. I'll tell you about my friend Rachel, who's gottwo men interested in her (count 'em, two ). And I'll let you inon what I've heard about Linnette McAfee, who left town whenher love life fell apart. ( That kind of trouble I know all about.)Come in soon for a manicure and a chat, okay?

Publisher's Weekly Review
Macomber's bestselling multigenerational series returns (following 6 Rainier Drive), interweaving drama and romance from all corners of fictional Cedar Cove, Wash. The focus this go-round is international chess champion Bobby Polgar and his hairdresser wife, Teri. Veiled threats from a Russian opponent have caused Bobby to drop out of tournament play and keep a close watch over Teri, but she's more concerned about the antics of her predatory sister, Christie, who is growing ever more distant. As in past volumes, a raft of supporting characters' subplots run parallel to the leads', among them widowed sheriff Troy Davis, torn between his daughter's needs and a budding romance; physician's assistant Linnette McAfee, leaving town and a broken heart behind; and a love triangle involving Teri's best friend, Rachel. Fans will pick up the threads easily, and newcomers will find most of the relationships self-explanatory (though a chart of characters would prove helpful). As usual, Macomber's unique mix of naivete, soap opera plotting and smalltown charm is virtually guaranteed to please. (Sept.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
Library Journal Review
In her latest "Cedar Cove" novel, Macomber again brings listeners into the world of a small town in the Pacific Northwest. Hairstylist Teri and her chess phenom husband, Bobby Polgar, are experiencing newly married bliss until a threat made against Teri by a Russian chess rival of Bobby's causes him to stop tournament play. Other subplots add to the novel's depth while giving it a bit of a soap opera feel: Teri's friend Rachel must decide between two potential suitors, Olivia must come to terms with a health challenge, and newly widowed Troy tentatively begins putting his life back together with the help of an old high school sweetheart. Those who enjoy the small-town charm of Jan Karon's "Mitford" series and who can relate to a similar range of female protagonists as those found in Beverly LaHaye's "Cedar Circle" books should enjoy this work. Narrator Andrea Gallo's manner is easy, breezy, and fun. Each cassette begins and ends with an appropriate announcement indicating the side number of each cassette, thus avoiding accidental mix-ups. Recommended for public libraries committed to women's fiction with a degree of predictability and little violence, strong language, or explicit sexual content.-David Faucheux, Louisiana Audio Information & Reading Svc., Lafayette (c) Copyright 2010.
