School Library Journal Review
Pres-Gr 2ÄA lively and comical translation of the escapades of Martha, a singular dog who actually speaks after digesting alphabet soup. The lively Spanish text captures the hilarious peak moments of Martha's incessant blabbering. The text is in perfect unison with the equally humorous ink-and-watercolor cartoon illustrations. The translation is highly readable and accurate throughout¥right down to Martha's infinitesimal last word.ÄSelene S. Vasquez, Orange Brook Elementary School, Hollywood, FL (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
What happens when the family dog eats alphabet soup and then learns to speak? This well-translated version of 'Martha Speaks' maintains the same humorous banter between Martha and her family found in the English edition. Some minor printed words in the illustrations remain in English, but all the speech balloons have been re-written in Spanish. From HORN BOOK 1997, (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
Ages 4^-8. When Elena feeds her dog alphabet soup, the letters gravitate to Martha's brain instead of her stomach. Suddenly, Martha talks incessantly. The cartoonlike ink drawings with bright watercolor washes, coupled with the smooth Spanish telling, will delight young Spanish speakers and their parents.
