Author Notes

Donald Jeffries' novel The Unreals has been lauded by the likes of multi-award-winning author Alexander Theroux and Night at the Museum screenwriter R. Ben Garant. His first nonfiction book, Hidden History , has earned the praise of everyone from political operative Roger Stone to international peace activist Cindy Sheehan to former Congressperson Cynthia McKinney. Jeffries lives in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Dr. Ron Paul is an American author, physician, and retired politician. He served three times for a total of 23 years as a US representative from Texas, and ran for president of the United States as a Libertarian Party nominee in 1988 and as a candidate in the Republican primaries of 2008 and 2012.

Booklist Review

Holding a contrarian view to those he characterizes as American court historians, Jeffries (Survival of the Richest, 2017) outlines another perspective on U.S. history. Noting that history is generally written by the victors, he wants readers to learn the other side's claims as well. He sees the story of the U.S. as betrayal of the Founding Fathers' intentions. He cites Jefferson's own support for local governments against federal encroachment and his suspicion of Alexander Hamilton's monetary innovations. The bulk of Jeffries' scorn is reserved for those who laud Abraham Lincoln. In Jeffries' perspective, Lincoln was a warmonger who pushed the nation into its bloodiest episodes, and was a hypocrite in his views on religion and race. Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman get similar rebuff for their roles in WWII. One of the few presidents to escape criticism, John F. Kennedy earns Jeffries' applause.
