Franklin learns it's not easy to earn a badge, but that scouting has its own rewards.
Franklin is joining the Trailblazers, and he can hardly wait to start earning badges. At his first meeting, he learns the Trailblazer promise, the Trailblazer call, and the Trailblazer handshake. But when he finds out that it takes months to earn even one badge, his enthusiasm begins to falter. Nevertheless, Franklin enjoys the activities, the snacks, and the games. He even gets an unexpected reward for his help in cleaning up and decides that the best thing about Trailblazers is that he has years of fun ahead as he works towards earning all his badges.
Paulette Bourgeois was born July 20, 1951 in Winnepeg , Canada. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1974 with a B.Sc. and worked briefly as an occupational therapist before returning to Carleton University to study journalism. She has worked in television and print before writing her first book, Franklin in the Dark.
Although Paulette is best-known for the Franklinthe Turtle books, she is also the writer of fiction and non-fiction for young readers. Her book, The Sun: Starting with Space was shortlisted for a Science in Society Book Award (1995), given by the Canadian Science Writer's Association, and won the honor of Parents' Choice Approval, given by the US Parents' Choice Foundation (1997).
