Author Notes

James Bowen (born on March 15, 1979) was a street musician in London when he found Bob the Ginger cat in Spring, 2007. The pair, now famous around the world, have been inseparable ever since. Bowen wrote the bestselling book, A Street Cat Named Bob and How He Saved My Life in 2013. As their book climbed bestseller lists in many countries and their fame skyrocketed, Bob began to receive hand-knitted scarves from all over the world. One such scarf can be seen on the cover of the paperback edition.

We can't know what life was like for the London alley cat that street musician James Bowen eventually found, but this picture book lets us imagine. Bowen imagines the cat is loved by an elderly woman who becomes ill. When the ambulance attendants take the woman away, the cat chases after them, only to become hopelessly lost. Tired, hungry, and dirty, he survives a cold winter on the streets of London. Then, in spring 2007, he is at last befriended by the guitar player James our author. Add Kelley's expressive, realistic watercolors, and this emotional book becomes a good one to put alongside Vicki Myron and Bret Witter's Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library! (2009). Bowen, who has successfully chronicled his life with Bob in two adult books A Street Cat Named Bob (2013) and The World According to Bob (2014) doesn't delve into his own situation or drug addiction, making this a simple, classic tale with which it is easy to empathize.--Petty, J.
