Summary
Don't Miss the Boat!
Sir Sidney's Circus usually travels by train. But one day a letter arrives from Flora Endora Eliza LaBuena LaPasta inviting the circus aboard the SS Spaghetti, a floating palace of elegance and entertainment. Who could resist?
One problem: Miss LaPasta does not want Barnabas Brambles to come aboard, because she has heard that he's the meanest man alive. Sir Sidney, the nicest man alive, says that the entire circus will accept Miss LaPasta's invitation, including Barnabas Brambles. But Leo the lion doesn't like water. Elsa the elephant doesn't know how to swim. Where will the Flying Banana Brothers put their trapeze? And hey, what's that large object up ahead in the water?
You'll never guess what happens when The Circus Goes to Sea.
Author Notes
Kate Klise and M. Sarah Klise have collaborated on numerous award-winning middle-grade and picture-book projects, including the Regarding the Fountain and 43 Old Cemetery Road series. Kate lives in Norwood, Missouri. She visits more than seventy school classrooms a year. Sarah Klise lives in Berkeley, California. Visit www.kateandsarahklise.com for more information. Illustrator M. Sarah Klise and author Kate Klise and are sisters and collaborators. They started making books together many years ago in their bedroom in Peoria, Illinois. Kate wrote the words; Sarah drew the pictures. Their first book was about an adventure-loving little mouse that traveled around the country. That story was never published. (In fact, it ended up in the garbage can!) But the Klise sisters had so much fun making their first book, they kept writing and drawing. And now they've published more than twenty award-winning books for young readers, including Regarding the Fountain and Dying to Meet You. The Klise sisters no longer share a bedroom. Kate lives in Missouri and travels often to visit schools and libraries. Sarah lives in California. But the two sisters still enjoy working together, especially on their new series about a pair of circus mice. (By the way, "Klise" rhymes with "mice.")

School Library Journal Review
Gr 1-3-Sir Sidney's Circus sets sail on board the SS Spaghetti, but things are not looking good. The animals are wary of a sea adventure, and Miss Flora Endora LaBuena LaPasta doesn't want Barnabas Brambles to come along. Winsome illustrations throughout, quick chapters, and zany antics make this latest installment on par with the previous books in the series. (c) Copyright 2014. Horn Book Review
Sir Sidney's goodhearted cast of performing animals and people take to the Atlantic at the request of a cruise ship captain's lonely young daughter. Series fans will recognize the winning formula: slapstick antics, punny asides, and lessons in kindness (and numerous other subjects) culminate in the circus saving the day. Generous spot art on every page seamlessly sets each scene. (c) Copyright 2015. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
Kirkus Review
In the third installment of the endearing Three-Ring Rascals chapter books, Sir Sidney's circus brings cruise-ship entertainment to a new level, and Brambles' heart grows as large as an ocean. Sir Sidney continues to work with his manager, Barnabas Brambles, on being kind. Bert and Gert, the circus mice, see a long road ahead, but little do they know a sea change is coming. A letter from a Miss LaPasta arrives, inviting the circus aboard a cruise shipall except Brambles! Miss LaPasta has "heard he's the meanest man alive." With that, Sir Sidney determines they will go, with Brambles. It's only after they embark that they discover that Miss LaPasta is a lonely child who did not tell her mother, Capt. LaPasta, about the invitation. Worse, Sir Sidney is laid low by seasickness, while Brambles becomes lovesick for the captain. And although the ensemble thrills the passengers with their antics and acts, the unhappy captain sees ruin and disaster. Then they hit an iceberg! The adventures are captured in text that fully integrates art and speech bubbles, geography lessons are gratis, and the climax is marked by a meatball version of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." All's well that ends with wedding bells. With this series, youngsters will find reading smooth sailing and look forward to future escapades. Next up: The circus tours Europe! Booklist Review
Circus owner Sir Sydney hasn't given up on turning profit-monger Barnabas Brambles into a kinder man. Perhaps the third book is the charm in the Three-Ring Rascals series, when the big-top gang receives an invitation to visit the SS Spaghetti. While the performers and talking animals entertain (and keep the pasta theme with high-wire noodle acts), Barnabas not only becomes smitten with the female captain but also leads the rescue during a Titanic-like crisis. As the mice slip in longitude and latitude, poetry, and more coined words, the story stays happily afloat with speech bubbles, letters, cheery sketches, and more.--Leeper, Angela Copyright 2014 Booklist
