Horn Book Review

Color by Hilary Sycamore. In this prequel to the 2017 animated film Animal Crackers, young Owen saves his abducted uncle with help from magical animal crackers. The circus setting, influenced by the iconic snack's packaging, has a retro feel that leans toward stereotype with its stock figures. Although the plot can be confusing at times, this colorful, skillfully illustrated graphic novel combines action, humor, and caricature to entertaining effect. (c) Copyright 2018.
