School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 1-Four short stories, illustrated in pastel hues with splashes of bright primary colors, describe the daily events in the life of a young, lavender otter. She has a picnic with ants, takes a bubble bath, goes swimming, and picks apples. Each page has a single sentence in large, bold type that is ideal for keeping beginning readers on task. But these stories are also fun to look at and listen to, and short enough not to overwhelm. In addition, instructions are provided for helping "first-time" readers. This is an ideal tool for adults, great for a classroom library, and just the right size for little hands.-Wanda Meyers-Hines, Loudoun County Public Schools, Ashburn, VA (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
In four very brief stories for beginning readers, Otter has an unusual picnic; takes a bath with mountains of bubbles; goes swimming (or tries to); and accidentally gathers enough apples for lots of pies. The simple text follows the series format--one line per page, with touches of humor to keep the stories interesting. Cheery illustrations provide beginning readers with visual clues.
