Author Notes

Jackie Collins was born in London, England on October 4, 1937. She appeared in a series of British B movies in the 1950s and made appearances in the 1960s ITC television series Danger Man and The Saint before giving up an acting career. She has since played herself in a few television series including Minder in 1980.

Her first novel, The World Is Full of Married Men, was published in 1968. Since then, she has written more than 30 novels including The Love Killers, Hollywood Husbands, L.A. Connections, Dangerous Kiss, Lethal Seduction, Deadly Embrace, Hollywood Divorces, Drop Dead Beautiful, Poor Little Bitch Girl, Goddess of Vengeance, Confessions of a Wild Child, and The Santangelos. Several of her novels have become successful television miniseries, including Hollywood Wives, Lucky, Chances, and Lady Boss, which she wrote and produced. Big screen successes have been The Stud, The World Is Full of Married Men, and The Bitch. She also wrote an original movie, Yesterday's Hero. She died of breast cancer on September 19, 2015 at the age of 77.

The eponymous bitch girl of the title is Annabelle Maestro, the daughter of two famous movie stars who flees L.A. for New York to escape her indifferent parents. She hooks up with coke-addicted DJ Frankie to start a high-priced escort business. And then her mother's murder makes headlines. Denver Jones, a beautiful, talented attorney who was briefly friendly with Annabelle, is called in when Annabelle's father, Ralph, becomes a suspect in his wife's death. Ralph orders Denver to fly to New York to bring Annabelle back for the funeral. In Washington, D.C., Denver's best friend, Carolyn, is desperately trying to get a hold of her to share some exciting news: Carolyn is pregnant with the child of the married senator she works for. Denver keeps missing Carolyn's calls because she has her hands full with Annabelle, who returns to L.A. determined to hide her secret business, and with her sights set on Bobby, the devastatingly handsome son of Lucky Santangelo, the heroine of several of Collins' previous novels. Though the characters are frequently vapid and shallow, their over-the-top antics are undeniably scintillating. Here, four old acquaintances-L.A.-based attorney Denver Jones; Carolyn Henderson, personal assistant and mistress to a married senator in Washington; New York madame-to-the-stars Annabelle Maestro; and Greek shipping heir Bobby Santangelo (son of Lucky)-are unexpectedly reunited when Annabelle's movie-star mother is found murdered. Collins herself reads, along with Allison Daugherty, Lara Hirner, and John Bedford Lloyd; all do a bang-up job with this classic Collins material rife with romance and intrigue. The voice of Denver, from whose point of view the story is narrated, is especially effective. Collins's many fans will not be dis-appointed.
